Advice on planting, when to plant, indoor and outdoor sowings and spacing together with a suggestion for rotation on your plot (courtesy of The Allotment Association).

The month by month guide can be downloaded here. A guide to the essential tasks for each month of the year to bring your plot into full productivity.

Bonfires

Please respect the rules concerning bonfires
Bonfires are only allowed at certain times and should be controlled and smoke free where poss
ible.

  • For safety reasons and for the convenience of other allotment holders and our neighbours bonfires are not allowed

  • There is an annual bonfire and allotment tidying day early in the year to prepare for the coming growing season

  • The date for the bonfire is published to all allotment holders and is an opportunity to burn larger weeds, old plants and other detritus

  • Please do not move your rubbish onto the wilderness area, store it on your plot until the big bonfire day

  • Remember, your reward is sausage in a bun, mulled wine and a good old natter on bonfire day

The Glut Hut

Don't let your surplus go to waste
Even the best planning cannot prevent a glut of produce at certain times of the year. Share the love!

  • The glut hut was erected in memory of ............. who greatly enjoyed working her allotment over a number of years

  • It is placed centrally, ready to receive your excess produce, spare pots and spare equipment

  • There have been some unusual 'gluts', not least a double swing and scrap timber from a shed upgrade

  • All gratefully received and reused and repurposed
